Background:
BBC Media Action is the BBC's international charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and help people understand their human rights.
Job purpose
BBC Media Action is seeking for an intern who can work across portfolio of projects and specifically support the research and production unit in executing their weekly and monthly activities
Main Duties
Research Unit
Ensure close follow-up of local partner stations and national programme producers about the submission of weekly database reports
Translation of the programme database information which includes mobile phone messages, facebook messages and tweets
Data entry of both local and national governance information into the local and national database
Follow up on the monthly governance programmes for content analysis
Assist in compiling and the weekly updating of the mentors training database
Production Unit
Attend and take notes for the weekly programme editorial meetings
Conduct and provide weekly research memos for the Haba Na Haba team on weekly shows
Monitor, summarizing and answering when needed, the SMS messages from Haba Na Haba listeners
Perform any other duties as requested
Required knowledge, skills and experience
A university graduate with proven experience or interest of working in the field of research
Fluency in English and Swahili with ability to write reports in these languages
Competency in Microsoft Excel and an eye for detail and accuracy
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish effective working relationships with all staff, in Tanzania and in the UK, and key external stakeholders strong understanding of and commitment towards BBC editorial values strong understanding of the role of media and communications in development.
