Arsenal are on the verge of a spectacular £40million transfer breakthrough after it emerged Mesut Ozil has verbally agreed a lucrative deal ahead of completing a move to the Emirates. 
Sportsmail can reveal that Arsenal have spoken directly to Ozil by telephone and reached an agreement over a lucrative contract, believed to be for five years. 
It will make Ozil the best paid player on Arsenal’s books, while the £40million-plus fee will be a new club record.
